2016 second XI fixtures revealed

Kent’s second XI will start their competitive campaign at The County Ground, Beckenham against MCC Young Cricketers with a T20 on Monday 18 April.

The opening three-day Championship match will follow against the same opponents starting the next day.

With no County Championship fixture for Kent at that time, first-team regulars could use the matches as an opportunity for time in the middle and stake their claim for a place in the first XI.

There are also fixtures against Club Cricket Conference (June 15), an Army XI (June 16) and Middlesex (August 9-12).

Folkestone hosts a T20 match two days before the NatWest T20 Blast starts so shorter-form specialists could face Sussex on Wednesday 18 May in preparation for The Spitfire Ground curtain-raiser against Somerset on Friday 20 May.

Hugh Bernard is delighted to see Three Hills Sports Park on the schedule with a three-day match against Essex starting on Tuesday 30 August.

The 18-year-old Kent Cricket Academy graduate plays his club cricket at Folkestone and said: "It's great news for the club to have Kent sides playing there.

"As a Folkestone boy, I love playing there and we've played the odd one-day game there so it's good to see a T20 and a three-day game scheduled there this season.

"The faciltiies on and off the pitch are improving all the time and the club does great work bringing through players along with the Shepway District coaches."

There are fixtures at Polo Farm (May 24-27, June 20-23), The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence (July 4-7) and King’s School Canterbury (July 11).
