A thousand children enjoy Schools’ Day at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence

Kent County Cricket Club and Kent Cricket Board, supported Chance to Shine National Cricket Day, by inviting every Chance to Shine school in the county to attend day two of Kent’s LV= County Championship match against Glamorgan at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence today.

24 schools accepted the offer and a thousand children attended, giving Kent their unwavering support throughout the day.

Two million children are playing cricket today thanks to Chance to Shine’s school cricket campaign, and last year Kent Cricket Board delivered quality, fun and meaningful cricket sessions to over 29,000 children.

As well as watching first-class cricket, the children enjoyed an autograph session with Kent Cricket’s Mark Davies and a range of competitions. The most enthusiastic school were awarded a special prize during the afternoon, and following some very avid flag waving and cheering throughout the afternoon the eventual winners were Luddenham Primary School.

Chairman of Kent Cricket Board and Kent Cricket CEO, Jamie Clifford commented on the success of the day; “Schools’ Day at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence has been a great success. 1,000 young people have had the opportunity to watch a day of first-class cricket, enjoy themselves at our ground and learn about the game.

“We hope that everyone had a great day, looking at the children on the outfield it seemed so, and that our young visitors return to support the Spitfires squad during their Friends Life t20 campaign over the next six weeks.

“Chance to Shine is a wonderful campaign and I am extremely pleased to see so many young people with such a keen interest in cricket.”
