Academy win one of two T20s at Southend

A Kent Cricket Academy XI won one and lost one in two T20s against Essex at Garon Park, Southend.

In the first match, Harsh Kumar top-scored with a patient 34 as wickets fell at the other end.

Isaac Dilkes’ 28 off 19 balls including six fours was the template which few batsmen could replicate.

Julian O’Riordan, Alex Moen and Joe Gordon managed brisk cameos as Kent posted 115-8 after opting to bat first.

In reply, home skipper Feroze Khushi’s unbeaten 59 off 45 balls saw Essex home with eight balls to spare.

Kumar took 2/13 in three overs and there were wickets for Tom Davis and Taylor Chandler.

In the second match, Essex won the toss and batted first with Josh Rymell (43*) and William Buttleman (57) pushing the hosts to 146-5.

The Mote left-armer Ollie Hills took 2-22 in four fine overs with Davis and Kumar also striking.

Joe Gordon (38) and Sam Smith (27) gave Kent the perfect start to the reply, sharing a stand of 72 in seven overs.

The middle order continued in the same vein with six of eight visiting batsman scoring at a run a ball or more to see Kent home with four wickets and five balls to spare.
