Alex Blake leads second XI in Trophy opener

Alex Blake will lead the second XI as they begin their competitive campaign with a double-header against Middlesex at Radlett.

Before a three-day Championship match on Tuesday (18 April), players will be hoping to stake a claim to play in the Royal London One-Day Cup, which starts next Thursday (27 April).

Zak Crawley will open the batting with Calum Haggett to get some time in the middle in a higher batting position.

The seconds are well stocked for seamers with Hugh Bernard, Charlie Hartley and Ivan Thomas joined by 16-year-old Academy scholar Tom Davis.

Three triallists will be aiming to impress second XI coach Min Patel: Gareth Harte is set to bat at three with Stephen Reeves and Adam Tillcock are two right-handed middle-order batsmen who can bowl slow left arm to supplement frontline spinner Imran Qayyum.

Changes will be made to the side for the Championship match on Tuesday to give game time to the likes of Adam Ball, who is in Hove as cover as a substitute fielder.

Kent 2nd XI squad to play Middlesex in Trophy: Alex Blake (c), Zak Crawley, Gareth Harte, Stephen Reeves, Adam Tillcock, Calum Haggett, Oliver Robinson (wk), Charlie Hartley, Imran Qayyum, Ivan Thomas, Hugh Bernard, Tom Davis.
