Kentish cricketers impress as England sweep Ireland in Abu Dhabi

Kent’s quartet of England players impressed in pre-season friendlies against Ireland in Abu Dhabi.

England Academy player and Kent vice-captain Alice Davidson-Richards followed up an unbeaten 74 in the first match on Monday with 45 not out as England scored 169 in 30 overs in Friday’s third match.

In reply, the Tunbridge Wells all-rounder took 1/17 in three overs and Kent left-armer Tash Farrant ended with 0/27 in nine overs.

County captain Tammy Beaumont hit a half-century and colleague Laura Marsh took two wickets in a convincing win on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Kent Cricket Academy graduate hit nine fours and a six in an innings of 58 off 60 balls at the top of the order.

Tash Farrant conceded just 10 runs in a tidy four-over spell to restrict the Irish reply to England’s 246-3 before Marsh claimed 2-27 off nine overs.

The off-spinner bowled top-scorer Gaby Lewis before removing Lara Maritz, caught by Farrant, to wrap up a 141-run win for England.

The centrally-contracted Kent trio of Beaumont, Farrant and Marsh will be unavailable for the opening matches of the Royal London Women’s County Championship this weekend.

The 2016 double winners travel to Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday (April 30 and May 1).

The first home match is against Sussex at The County Ground, Beckenham on Sunday 14 May before a Bank Holiday double-header v Lancashire & Yorkshire on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May.
