Beaumont and Marsh play in World Cup warm-up

Kent’s Tammy Beaumont and Laura Marsh pressed their claims for a place in England’s World Cup side in a resounding warm-up win against Sri Lanka.

Off-spinner Marsh (1/29 off 8 overs) dismissed opener Hasini Perera, caught at deep square leg by Danni Wyatt as England dismissed Sri Lanka for 155 in 47.2 overs.

New-ball duo Katherine Brunt (2/44) and Anya Shrubsole (3/27) did the most damage with the spin of Georgia Elwiss, Heather Knight and Alex Hartley taking one each.

Beaumont hit five fours in an innings of 31 off 36 balls and put on 66 for the first wicket with Lauren Winfield.

England completed the chase in the 31st over to win by eight wickets but they too carried on to complete their 50 overs.

Taylor fell 16 runs short of three figures but Knight reached her landmark to warm applause from the Chesterfield crowd.

England’s middle order used their additional time in the middle to carry the attack to Sri Lanka and the hosts closed on an imposing 348-5.
