Beaumont & Marsh crowned world champions

Kent’s Tammy Beaumont and Laura Marsh were crowned world champions as England beat India in a tense Women’s World Cup final at Lord’s.

County captain Beaumont was named player of the tournament after scoring 410 runs with 23 and Marsh hit 14* off 11 balls at the end as England posted 228-7 after winning the toss.

The 26-year-old Dover-born opener averaged 45.55 with a best of 148 against South Africa at Bristol in the group stage.

In reply, India were cruising at 191-3 before player-of-the-match Anya Shrubsole grabbed five of her six wickets to seal an unlikely win. Marsh conceded 40 runs from a wicketless 10-over spell.

The Pembury-born off-spinner took six wickets in five matches in the World Cup with a best return of 4/45 against Sri Lanka at Taunton in the group stages.
