Bell-Drummond and Northeast win South warm-up match

Daniel Bell-Drummond and Sam Northeast both made contributions with the bat for the South of England side beat a United Arab Emirates XI by five wickets in Dubai.

The Kent duo warmed up at the ICC Academy for the three-match North v South 50-over series by helping the chase of 344 with ten balls to spare.

Centuries from Rohan Mustafa and Shaiman Anwar helped the hosts post a challenging target with Somerset’s Lewis Gregory the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/70.

In reply, Bell-Drummond struck five fours in a 40-ball innings of 37 in an opening stand of 81.

Later, his county captain Sam Northeast scored 38 in a century stand with James Vince, who retired on 125 before the tourists secured victory.

The serious business begins on Friday in the grander surroundings of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which will stage the first two matches of the series with the second on Sunday (19 March) before the third and final match in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (21 March).
