My first blog…

Thursday 17th February 2011

I bring you my first blog from the cold, wet and dreary depths of Leeds, with a thesaurus to hand. As I wait for my strength and conditioning session with former Gloucestershire and Worcestershire spinner Ian Fisher at 4 o’clock, I try bringing myself to get on with some dissertation work. Not such an easy task with Loose Women gaining the majority of my attention on the box. With Jamie Oliver’s 30 minute meals not too far away, the library could be a better option as I look to complete this 10,000 word assignment before pre-season gets underway on the 11th March.

It’s been a long winter, but a thoroughly enjoyable one in my last year at Leeds Metropolitan University. Juggling the workload with both cricket and hockey has been a challenge in my quest to come out with at least a Desmond (2.2). As my housemates continually remind me however, my attention wavers and I find myself back on Facebook at regular intervals.

As you will have most probably heard, yesterday was a landmark day for me as I signed my new 3 year contract. I’m obviously overjoyed to have committed my foreseeable future to Kent and look forward to donning the Horse for the next 3 years. My roots are in Kent and I’d like to thank the club and supporters for showing faith in me. I hope to repay this faith in the coming season and the years to come.

The next few weeks are an important time for all cricketers across the country, as we aim to hit the ground running when the season gets underway. The transition from the indoor school to the nets in front of the Frank Woolley is not the easiest one in the freezing cold, but one that I’m very much looking forward to, as Kent aims to make 2011 a successful campaign.

Anyway, that’s all for the first of my weekly blogs as I look to keep you informed of the teams proceedings as well as mine. Early night for me tonight as a 5.30am rise beckons for a brutal hour’s cardio session in the gym with the rest of the UCCE lads. Splendid!
