Kent all-rounder Calum Haggett has enjoyed a strong start to his spell in the South Africa Time Competition.

The 24-year-old took 4-12 off seven overs on Sunday as Old Edwardian Society bowled out Jeppe for just 68, as Haggett bowled good pace, bounce and movement.

Calum was not done yet, as he finished on 21 not out as Old Eds cruised to a six-wicket win.

Haggett is staying with his uncle in Alberton and said: "It is an opportunity for me to spend time in the middle with both the bat and ball and be prepared for the next English county season.

“I have not had to change my bowling action too much even though I am playing on harder and faster wickets than back home.”

Last week, Old Eds secured a rain-affected draw after posting 279 with the Kent man scoring 41 with the bat before helping to reduce Lenasia to 88/4 by taking a wicket before the match was abandoned.

He took 3/29 on his debut and will return to Kent in March as the squad begin their pre-season with a three-day fixture against Loughborough MCCU on 12-14 April at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

The competitive season starts on the road with trips to Essex and Lancashire before the opening LV= County Championship home match against Leicestershire on Sunday 3 May at Canterbury.
