Mitch Claydon took 1/15 off three overs as Newcastle Steel failed to defend a low total in the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup.
Randswick-Petersham restricted Newcastle to 127 for six before passing the target with 21 balls to spare.
In the Sydney Grade League, Fabian Cowdrey bowled a tidy 22-over spell for Western Suburbs.
He took 1/30 with a LBW and a run out later in the innings as they restricted Eastern Suburbs to 246.
Wests reaches 18 for one in reply with Fabian Cowdrey the next man in when day two resumes next weekend.
