Cowdrey hits third successive 50 for Western Suburbs

In-form Kent all-rounder Fabian Cowdrey scored his third successive 50 for Western Suburbs against Hawkesbury in the Sydney First Grade.

The 22-year-old took two wickets on day one before scoring 73 off 100 balls, hitting seven boundaries and a six in a fluent knock on the second and final day today.

The struggling Wests line-up collapsed around Cowdrey as they lost by 31 runs on first innings score.

In Queensland, Sam Northeast’s Sunshine Coast Scorchers built a commanding total on day one of the their Queensland First Grade match at Toombul.

The Kent captain, who has also hit three 50s this winter, scored three as his side posted 353 with the hosts ending day one on 81 for 1.

Brisbane Heat Big Bash star Chris Lynn reached 66 not out off just 20 balls after returning from breaking the tournament record for sixes to club nine maximums in a 25-minute assault.

Former Kent batsman Brendan Nash is also due to bat for Toombul on day two of the Grade clash next Saturday (30 January).

The Scorchers sit fourth in the First Grade two-day competition with the top four reaching the end-of-season playoffs.
