Crawley: Ton gives me confidence

Kent batsman Zak Crawley will take confidence from his highest score for the Second XI against Sussex in a 164-run Championship win this week, writes Peter Burrowes.

The 6ft 6in Bromley-born Kent Academy graduate plundered 24 boundaries in his innings of 134 and he was delighted to reach the three figure mark for the third time in second XI cricket.

Zak, who scored a century for the Seconds in a three day game against Somerset two seasons ago and a one day ton against Hampshire last season felt his latest century was one of his best.

The 19-year-old said: “It all came together at the same time in one innings. There is always an element of luck involved but everything went for me on the day.”

Crawley has yet to make his first team debut for Kent and would eventually like to be seen as an all-rounder but knows he has to develop his swing bowling and get plenty of overs under his belt.

“I know there is a lot of hard work ahead but I feel I am making progress with my game and the century against Sussex has helped my confidence.”

The Second XI travel to the West Country for a one-day Trophy match against Somerset at Taunton Vale on Monday, May 15 with a three day Championship match between the same sides starting on Tuesday 16 May.

They then travel to Wales for another Trophy match against Glamorgan at Newport on Friday 19 May.
