After sliding to 205-6, Denly shared a Kent record seventh-wicket stand against Worcestershire of 149 with Adam Rouse (68).

The pair were untroubled during the afternoon session until Rouse fell to Moeen Ali in the final over before the tea interval for 68, caught at short leg by Ross Whiteley.

The pair counter-attacked either side of lunch with Denly reaching three figures with a six over mid-wicket off Moeen Ali before stands of 54 with Matt Coles (39) and 41 with Yasir Shah (27) helped Kent to 474 all out.

Worcestershire kept chipping away at the other end and picked up three wickets in the morning session.

Skipper Joe Leach bowled a probing opening spell of 7-2-21-2 in which he had Joe Weatherley (24) caught at second slip and Darren Stevens (19) lbw after he offered no shot.

John Hastings replaced him at the Diglis End and also settled into a good line and length and he was rewarded when Will Gidman (19) nicked through to Ross Whiteley at first slip.

After tea, Coles top-edged Moeen Ali to ‘keeper Ben Cox before Yasir was caught by Moeen at square-leg off Hastings.

In reply, Worcs closed on 16 without loss, requiring 383 more runs for victory on the final day.
