Denly helps Karachi reach PSL playoffs

Joe Denly celebrated his 32nd birthday in style by top-scoring for Karachi Kings in a low-scoring win against league leaders Islamabad United to reach the knockout stages of the Pakistan Super League.

He hit six fours and a six in a brisk 28-ball innings as Kings chased 125 to win at Sharjah to climb to second in the table.

Earlier, Shahid Afridi picked up 2/18 in a fine four-over spell with left-arm paceman Usman Khan the pick of the attack with 4/17 as United were all out for 124 in 19 overs.

After Denly’s cameo, Babar Azam (29*) and Colin Ingram (31*) guided them home to set up a re-match between the top two in the qualifier on Sunday (18 March) in Dubai at 4pm GMT.

The winning side reaches the final at the National Stadium in Karachi on Sunday 25 March with the loser getting a second chance to qualify via the mid-week eliminators in Lahore against the third or fourth-placed side.
