Denly hits 25th T20 50 in PSL

Kent batsman Joe Denly top-scored with 78 as Karachi Kings beat Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.

The 31-year-old reached his 25th half-century in T20 cricket off 33 balls as he shared the biggest partnership of the tournament to date.

Denly hit ten fours and two sixes as he added 118 with Babar Azam (58) to put Kings in control with a substantial score that the Sultans never seemed likely to threaten.

Multan invited Karachi to bat first and removed West Indies opener Lendl Simmons in the fourth over before Denly and Azam gradually accelerated through the gears.

Former Kent seamer Hardus Viljoen picked up the wickets of both players but conceded 49 from his four overs.

In reply, the Sultans lost four wickets in four overs after the initial breakthrough when Kumar Sangakkara nicked behind off Mohammad Irfan Jr.

Shahid Afridi was the pick of the attack with 3/18 in four overs and Joe Denly conceded 15 runs in a two-over cameo and took a sharp catch at short mid-wicket to remove Junaid Khan.

Sohail Tanvir’s beligerent 34 not out off 29 balls was the resistance as Kings wrapped up a 63-run win to move up to second in the table with three matches to play.
