England Under 19s to face Sri Lanka this summer at Canterbury

Friday 19th March 2010

ECB today announced changes to the fixture schedule for incoming tours by international ‘A“ teams this summer and new opponents for the England Under 19 team in their domestic international series this summer.

Following a request from New Zealand Cricket to postpone the New Zealand ’A’ Team tour to UK originally scheduled for summer 2010, the ECB has agreed with West Indies Cricket Board that West Indies ’A’ will tour in place of New Zealand ’A’. West Indies ’A’ will now participate in the Triangular ODI Series with England Lions and India ’A’ (matches staged at Northampton, Grace Road and New Road) and will also replace New Zealand ’A’ as opposition for India ’A’ in two ’A’ Team Test Matches which will now be played at Grace Road and Whitgift School, Croydon.

As the West Indies ’A’ players are required to return home by mid July to participate in the WICB domestic Twenty20 Tournament, the 3-day and 4-day elements of the itineraries for the incoming ’A’ teams have been brought forward to the start of the tours rather than being played after the 1-day programme – the dates and venues for the 1-day programme remain unchanged. This has led to the following scheduling changes:

India ’A’ will now play the 3-day tour match v Yorkshire at Headingley Carnegie as the opening fixture of the Tour, Sat 5 – Mon 7 June (previously scheduled for Headingley Carnegie 11-13 July).

West Indies ’A’ will play a 3-day tour match v Glamorgan at SWALEC Stadium as the opening fixture of the Tour, Sat 5 – Mon 7 June. This replaces the New Zealand ’A’ 3-day tour match v Durham at Riverside (Riverside unavailable to stage the fixture on the revised dates).

The 1st Test between India ’A’ and West Indies ’A’ will now be played Thu 10 – Sun 13 June at Grace Road, Leicester. The 1st Test between India ’A’ and New Zealand ’A’ was previously scheduled for 16-19 July at Old Trafford (Old Trafford unavailable to stage the fixture on the revised dates).

The 2nd Test between India ’A’ and West Indies ’A’ will now be played Thu 17 – Sun 20 June at Whitgift School, Croydon. The 2nd Test between India ’A’ and New Zealand ’A’ was previously scheduled for 23-26 July at The Rose Bowl (Rose Bowl unavailable to stage the fixture on the revised dates).
