Essex Eagles v Kent Spitfires (Wed, 2pm)

The Battle of the Bridge resumes at Chelmsford on Wednesday as Kent Spitfires bid for a sixth successive Royal London One-Day Cup win to secure a home tie in the knockout stages.

Victory against Essex Eagles in the day-night match means Kent would host a quarter-final at The County Ground, Beckenham on Thursday 14 June unless Hampshire drop points at home to Somerset in which case the Spitfires would progress to a home semi-final at The Spitfire Ground on Sunday/Monday 17/18 June.

Head coach Matt Walker is delighted with the character shown by the squad to bounce back from two defeats to win five matches in ten days to qualify from a competitive South Group.

The former Kent and Essex batsman returns to his former county with an unchanged squad from the weekend wins at Beckenham and said: “We’re trying to become a team that rises to whatever challenge we are set and find a way to win.

“You’ve seen that in this competition where we won a losing cause at Hampshire, defended a big total against Surrey before chasing more than 300 against Gloucestershire.

“Essex are a good side as are all teams in our group and they will come hard with Chopra and Wheater at the top of the order and good players keep coming with the likes of Westley, Bopara, Ten Doeschate and Zaidi all potential matchwinners but we have similar threats too.”
