Farrant & Beaumont shine in England win

Tash Farrant took two wickets and Tammy Beaumont struck 35 as England continued their perfect start to the T20 tri-series in Mumbai with a superb win against India.

The match will be largely remembered for opener Danni Wyatt’s record score of 124 in a record chase of 199.

Left-armer Farrant opened the bowling after England won the toss and struck twice after an early onslaught propelled the hosts to an imposing total of 198-4.

Farrant removed opener Mithali Raj for 53, caught Jenny Gunn before India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for 30.

In reply, Danni Wyatt broke her records for England’s highest individual women’s T20 score and the fastest century by an Englishwoman, becoming only the second woman to reach three figures in two international T20s.

The seventh century in women’s international T20 cricket came off just 52 balls as she kept the tourists ahead of the run rate as she fell three runs short of setting a new record to surpass Australian Meg Lanning’s 126 against Ireland in 2o14.

Kent captain Beaumont’s cameo of 35 off 23 balls included three fours and a six as Wyatt dispatched 15 fours and 5 sixes at the Brabourne Stadium.

All-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards again featured for England but did not bat or bowl as the Kent vice-captain watched Nat Sciver (12*) and Heather Knight (8*) seal a seven-wicket win.

Next up, England face Australia on Wednesday (5.30am BST), needing a win to seal qualification for Saturday’s final.
