Hampshire struggle after delay

Kent seamer Mark Davies took two wickets as Hampshire limped to 50 for three during the 63 minutes of action possible on a largely dry first day of their LV= County Championship Division Two clash in Tunbridge Wells.
A flash flood in the early hours of Sunday morning had left the pitch damp in places and the outfield sodden, ensuring match umpires Steve Gale and Richard Illingworth had little or no choice but to hold five inspections before opting to start at 4.15pm
Batting first after losing the toss, Hampshire were soon deep in trouble and, when the rain returned after 15.1 overs, were already three down.
Kent's opening bowlers Charlie Shreck and Davies moved the ball off the seam at will and made their first breakthrough after only 19 deliveries.
Shreck pushed one across the body of left-hander Michael Carberry and grazed the outside edge for wicketkeeper Geraint Jones to dive to his left and take an excellent low catch.
Two overs later, former Durham seamer Davies jagged one back in off the seam to Bilal Shafayat and snared the right-hander leg before for nine.
Visiting captain Jimmy Adams appeared in little or no trouble in scoring eight, but he too then pushed down the wrong line against Davies to fall lbw and make it 37 for three.
The visitors added 13 to their total before the rain returned to wash play out for the remainder of the day soon after 5.15pm.

If you hold a parking pass for the St Lawrence Ground or Simon Langton Girls' School you will be able to park on site at The Nevill.
As parking is limited, if you are not in possession of one of these passes you are advised to park in Forest Road or Warwick Park Road. There are also several car parks within a 10 – 15 minute walk; Torrington Car Park, Great Hall Car Park and Pantiles Car Park.
You may also wish to consider travelling by taxi from the station.
