Jimmy Adams targets improvement at Hampshire

Kent head coach Jimmy Adams has selected a 13-man squad for the trip to Southampton to face high-flying Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire are aiming for promotion to Division One but Kent will be keen to bounce back from defeat at Essex with a win in their penultimate LV= County Championship fixture of 2014.

Adams said: “We let ourselves down last week with an inconsistent display of batting and bowling.

“We are a better team than we showed and the lads are determined to put up an improved performance starting this week against Hampshire.”

Kent squad to face Hampshire: Rob Key (captain), Daniel Bell-Drummond, Sam Billings (wicketkeeper), Mitchell Claydon, David Griffiths, Ben Harmison, Calum Haggett, Matt Hunn, Brendan Nash, Sam Northeast, Adam Riley, Darren Stevens, James Tredwell.

The hosts name a 13-man squad with South African spinner Imran Tahir returning from international duty.

Former England opener Michael Carberry is ruled out for the rest of the season with a hand injury so batsmen Sean Terry and Tom Alsop could deputise.

Hampshire squad: Jimmy Adams (captain), Tom Alsop, Danny Briggs, Matt Coles, Liam Dawson, Sean Ervine, Will Smith, Imran Tahir, Sean Terry, James Tomlinson, James Vince, Adam Wheater (wicketkeeper), Chris Wood.

Since Hampshire moved to the Rose Bowl in 2001, they have played Kent eight times: winning one, losing two and drawing on five occasions.

Last year, honours were even as a Neil McKenzie century put Hampshire in control with Adam Riley taking 7 for 150.

Attacking declarations by both skippers tried to set up a close-fought run chase with Kent reaching 296-8, chasing 342 to win.
