Denly called into England ODI squad

Kent all-rounder Joe Denly has been drafted into the England One Day squad and will join the England set-up in Kandy on Wednesday morning.

England spinner Liam Dawson will return home from England’s tour of Sri Lanka with a right side strain.

Dawson sustained the injury bowling in England’s victory over Sri Lanka on Saturday in the second ODI. He is set to return home tomorrow and is likely to be out of action for up to a month.

If selected to play, this will be Denly’s first ODI appearance since the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy against Australia in 2009.

Denly was named Players’ Player of The Year at the prestigious PCA Awards earlier this month after also being named the PCA’s Most Valuable Player for 2018.

He finished the season top of the Royal London One Day Cup and Vitality Blast player rankings.
