Kent and England women cricketers are an inspiration
Kent and England’s left arm fast bowler Tash Farrant, and Grace Gibbs, who represented England Under 19s last winter, were guests of honour at the Kent Under 11 Girls awards presentation, held recently at Addington Village Cricket Club.
Other special guests included Anthony Spencer, Principal of St Lawrence College, Ramsgate, sponsors of the KCB Girls age group teams, and Mark Dekker, former Zimbabwe test player and now academy coach at Tonbridge School, where many of Kent’s talented girls train.
The two rising star cricketers, who helped Kent secure the 2014 Women’s County Championship for the 6th time in the past nine seasons, answered questions from each girl and then presented medals and trophies to every member of the Under 11 squad.
David Sear, manager of the Kent Under 11 Girls, said “It was truly great to have Tash and Grace at our do. They both spent three years each in our Under 11s from 2004-7 and they are the first Under 11 girls to be invited back to make presentations to the current squad. We trawled the archives to find photos of them when they were primary school kids and put them into a little movie – which was quite emotional for some.
“We were also thrilled to have with us the County Championship Trophy and the Royal London One Day Cup, and what the girls said at the question and answer session was captivating, powerful and inspiring.”
Judging from the reactions of everyone, I think that we did a good job to capture the spirit of the season with stunning photo and music show and thank everyone who did so much to help the season go well. It was a most enjoyable and inspirational evening that will be long remembered.
