Kent beat Sussex in T20 double-header

Defending champions Kent beat hosts Sussex and lost to Surrey in their second T20 double-header of the season at Billingshurst.

In the opening match, Kent won the toss and opted to field first, restricting Sussex to 93 for eight.

Izzy Cloke, 16, achieved career-best figures of 2/17 in a fine four-over spell with a wicket each for Megan Belt, Alice Davidson-Richards, Grace Gibbs, Jenni Jackson and Chelsey Rowson.

Tash Farrant could only manage 11 deliveries before limping off with injury as the visitors rotated seven bowlers to good effect.

Emily Thompson started the reply in style, smashing four boundaries in a brisk 19 in an opening stand of 31 with Lottie Bryan (11).

Davidson-Richards (31*) and Gibbs (21*) finished the chase with a ball to spare thanks to an unbeaten partnership of 52.

In the second match, Davidson-Richards won her second successive toss and chose to bat first.

Only two players reached double figures as Hannah Jones took 3/8 and Beth Kerins took 2/8.

In reply, Cloke struck with the second ball of the innings and despite a fine four-over spell of 2/6 by Megan Belt, Surrey reached the target of 67 with 20 balls to spare.

Gibbs and Davidson-Richards took a wicket apiece as England seamer Farrant sat out after her injury in the first match.

Next up is another T20 doubleheader against Somerset and Yorkshire in Taunton on Sunday 16 July.
