Kent beat Sussex & lose to Surrey in T20s

Kent won one and lost one in two nailbiting Vitality Women’s T20 matches at Billingshurst without several of their international stars.

Teenagers Kirsty Dymond and Grace Scrivens made their senior debuts as Kent won a low-scoring opener against hosts Sussex before losing by a single run to Surrey.

After winning the toss and batting first, a superb bowling and fielding display defended a total of 69 in the first match.

Only Izzy Cloke (21) scored double figures on a tricky wicket before a career-best 3/11 for Chelsey Rowson, supported superbly by Jenni Jackson (2/11), Arlene Kelly (2/10) and Grace Gibbs (1/11) dismissed the hosts for just 61 to seal a nine-wicket win in the penultimate over of a nailbiting contest.

In the second match, Kent invited Surrey to bat first, who started strongly reaching 53-3 at the halfway stage.

Grace Gibbs (2/18) removed openers White (23) and Travers (14) before Chelsey Rowson (2/13), Jenni Jackson (1/9) and Izzy Cloke (1/16) and three run-outs restricted Surrey to 91-9.

In reply, Hannah Jones and Molly Sellars struck to reduce the three-times champions to 19-2 before an excellent three-over spell by Danielle Gregory returned 4/7.

Debutant Scrivens hit a mature 18* off 23 balls to keep Kent in the hunt before New Zealander Arlene Kelly struck 13* off eight balls as Surrey won by a single run.
