Kent Cricket Profile: Ashley Shaw

Age and role:

21, left-arm seamer

How did you end up at Kent?

I trialled with the county after six months in Australia – it was three years ago now. Paul Farbrace and Simon Willis were the coaches at the time.

Who is the one to watch at Kent Cricket, and why?

Ivan Thomas – on and off the field he’s very random.

Which cricket ground is your favourite in England, and why?

My favourite ground has to be Old Trafford. I’ve never played there but I’ve always wanted to.

If you could play cricket anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?

Lord’s – because of the excellent facilities and the food there is fantastic.

Who is the last player to buy a round?

Matt Coles. You can’t get anything about him. The guy’s whipped with his girlfriend as well.

Who is the worst dressed?

Mark Davies. He has three rugged outfits that go in like a cycle. They’re like a sort of cowboy/ farmerish look. He’s got an old flat cap with a rugged jumper which he wears with skinny jeans and boots.

Who is the messiest in the dressing room?

Sam Northeast. It’s an absolute tip around him.

Who is the worst room-mate?

I’ve only roomed with Matt Coles. He snores and he stinks so it has to be him.

Who is the greatest cricketer you have ever seen?

Jimmy Adams – he’s still got it as well. I keep telling him to get his pads on and that I would snick him off no worries but he reckons he could hit me for six. His nickname is Jimmy Padams.

Who is the greatest cricketer that ever lived?

Sachin Tendulkar

If you could create the perfect cricket player, whose facets wouldthey have (batting, bowling, fielding and mentality)?

He’d have Mitchell Johnson’s body shape and tattoos, with Jimmy Adams’ swagger, Sachin’s batting ability and Shane Warne’s brain.
