Kent Cricket saddened by the death of Richard Mayes

Kent County Cricket Club is saddened to learn of the death of former Kent Cricketer Richard (Dicky) Mayes.

Richard Mayes was a stylish right handed batsman who played 77 matches for Kent from 1947 to 1953. A prolific scorer of runs in the second eleven, he promised much in 1951 when he got 719 runs, including a score of 133 against Hampshire at Southampton, and again in 1952 when he got 889 runs.

Unfortunately, he only played 14 matches in 1953 and the county released him at the end of that season. After leaving Kent he played for Suffolk and then became a coach and groundsman at Woolverstone Hall School in Ipswich, where he worked from 1957 to 1987.
