The University will become the Major Sponsor for the Royal London County Champions who will play in a coloured kit for the first time in 2015.

Professor Rama Thirunamachandran, Vice-Chancellor of Canterbury Christ Church University, said: “We are delighted to sign this partnership agreement which will continue our association with Kent Women’s cricket, and demonstrate our dedication to supporting women’s sport.

“The team not only had a successful season last year, becoming County Champions, but three of their players went on to represent England during the recent Test series in New Zealand.”

Charlotte Edwards is an Honorary Fellow at the University and reached the honour of captaining her country for the 200th time during the New Zealand tour.

The most successful England captain of all time said: “This is a ground-breaking partnership. I am not aware of a long-term sponsorship partnership of a county on this scale. The University’s support gives us a great opportunity to really grow cricket in Kent.”

Charlotte was joined at the signing by Kent team-mate and Canterbury Christ Church University Sport Scholar Jenni Jackson, from West Malling.
