Kent cricketers to play at Folkestone Invicta FC

Several Kent cricketers will be lacing up their boots for a memorial football match at Folkestone Invicta on Sunday.

James Tredwell has invited team-mates and local footballers to take part in a match in memory of his late father John, who played football for Folkestone.

The Kent and England spinner is celebrating his Testimonial Year at the Cheriton Road Sports Ground and will line up alongside county colleagues.

Expect to see cameos from Alex Blake, Darren Stevens, Adam Riley and skipper Sam Northeast as well as former team-mates Geraint Jones and David Masters.

Tredwell, who signed at a contract extension at the end of the 2017 season, said: “Dad was renowned for having played more than 1,000 games for first Folkestone Town since 1957, aged just 15, and then had a long relationship with Folkestone in recent years, managing the youth team and reserves up until 1989.

“He was always regarded as an inside right, but was kind of a utility man that played anywhere. He even played in goal once I believe.

“Dad was one of those players that always did a job for the team and played in the FA Cup 1st Round twice.”

The event starts at midday on Sunday 19 November with food, drink and a raffle in the Stripes bar after the match.

Entrance is free with voluntary donations to James Tredwell Testimonial Fund, Crohns & Colitis UK and the PCA Benevolent Fund.
