Kent Spitfires stars heading to 2019 VIVO IPL

Kent Cricket vice-captain Joe Denly and 2018 Vitality Blast overseas signing Carlos Brathwaite have both been picked in the 2019 VIVO Indian Premier League player auction.

West Indies T20I Captain Brathwaite, who featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad in last season’s IPL, started with a base price of  ₹75 lacs (around £82,500), and was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹500 lacs (around £559,000).

Canterbury-born all-rounder and 2018 Vitality Blast MVP Denly was given a base price of ₹100 lacs (around £110,000) and had not featured in the IPL before. Kolkata Knight Riders secured Denly’s services at his base price and the 2018 Players’ Player of the Year will join Brathwaite in Kolkata in March.

New Zealand international and 2018 Kent Cricket overseas player Matt Henry, who featured for Kings XI Punjab in 2017, had a base price of ₹75 lacs (around £82,500) in the auction and remained unsold.

All three 2018 Kent Spitfires players featured on a list of 346 players, an amalgamation of the eight franchises’ player shortlists announced last Monday.

Denly and Brathwaite will be joining 2018 teammates Marcus Stoinis, Adam Milne and Sam Billings in India for the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on 23rd March.

Marcus Stoinis left his franchise for the last two editions of the IPL, Kings XI Punjab, for Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by Virat Kohli, earlier this year.

Both Milne and Billings were retained by their franchises, Mumbai Indians and reigning champions Chennai Super Kings respectively, for the upcoming tournament.
