Kent Spitfires v Somerset: Match Report
Friday 3rd June 2011
A sell-out crowd and a carnival atmosphere at The Nevill for the Kent Spitfires’ first match of the Friends Life t20 campaign.
Kent won the toss and elected to bat. Notable performances came from Rob Key (43) and Darren Stevens’ 68 included four sixes. But the Spitfires were eventually outplayed by a strong Somerset side. After losing Peter Trego for six; bowled by Kent’s new signing Charl Langeveldt, Somerset made their mark. Roelof van der Merwe made his highest t20 score of89 not out (which included six sixes and seven fours) off 51 balls, and along with captain Marcus Trescothick (64 not out) put on an unbroken stand of 150.
