Kent will be bidding to build on an excellent recent record in 50-over games at Beckenham and local boy Alex Blake enjoys playing closer to home.

The Kent Cricket Academy graduate, who plays his club cricket for Beckenham, said: “It means a lot for me to play there having grown up and played all my cricket in the area.

“It’s a good wicket and it’s exciting to play at Beckenham and hopefully get some runs in front of my family and friends.”

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings returned to Kent this week and relishes the old rivalry with neighbours Surrey.

The England batsman said: “It’s usually a brilliant atmosphere down at Beckenham with the supporters so close to the action, even more so against Surrey as it’s not far from The Oval.

“I know quite a few of the Surrey lads so it’d be nice to turn them over. Surrey are a good side so we’re going to have to be on it as there are a lot of strong teams in the South Group.”

Imran Qayyum offers a specialist spin option if Kent rotate their attack with James Tredwell (shoulder) still sidelined with injury. Zak Crawley is playing in the Second XI Championship at Hove so Adam Rouse offers an extra batting option.

Sam Curran is unavailable for the visitors after a late call-up to the England Test squad but brother Tom and England ODI opener Jason Roy are in contention after his spell in the IPL. Mark Stoneman returns to county action after being excluded from England’s Test series.

Former South Africa Test paceman Morne Morkel has recovered from a side strain to make his Surrey one-day debut but Stuart Meaker misses out after fracturing a rib.

Kent Spitfires squad: 23 Daniel Bell-Drummond, 6 Joe Denly, 4 Heino Kuhn, 58 Sean Dickson, 7 Sam Billings (c), 10 Alex Blake, 3 Darren Stevens, 25 Calum Haggett, 12 Adam Rouse, 24 Matt Henry, 1 Harry Podmore, 8 Mitch Claydon, 11 Imran Qayyum.
