Kent v Surrey – now a reduced overs match

Wednesday 26th August 2009

AS a result of forecasted high winds, and the light contractors advice that the floodlights are unlikely to be able to be put up, the format of today’s match has been changed by the ECB in line with ECB 2009 Playing Regulations that read:

If extreme strong wind is forecast that would preclude the use of the floodlights for safety reasons at the time when the floodlights would be required, the umpires may, in consultation with ECB cricket department, reduce the number of scheduled overs to be bowled in the match.

In making such reduction, the overs shall be calculated to allow the maximum number of overs in the first innings to be bowled that would also allow for the minimum number of overs to constitute the match (10) to be bowled in the second innings in natural light.

For the avoidance of doubt, should play be possible under natural light or under floodlights after ten overs have been bowled in the second innings, play shall continue and playing condition nine, fitness of ground, weather and light shall apply.

In line with these regulations the umpires have determined that the match will be 27 overs per side. There will be a 10 minute break between the innings and the team batting second will bat as long as the light allows. If the floodlights cannot be put up it is hoped that natural light will allow the completion of at least 10 overs which will constitute a match.

This is the second year running that this has happened at the St Lawrence Ground and whilst this is beyond Kent County Cricket Club’s control, we would like to make a goodwill gesture and offer all ticket holders for tonight’s game the chance to return to the ground for our next home game:

Sunday 13 September NatWest Pro40 Kent Spitfires v Warwickshire Bears at Canterbury

Anyone who wishes to come to the above game, will be able to use their ticket stub from tonight to gain free entry. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Club. Please note that the free ticket stub offer does not include car parking.
