Kent Win By 8 Wickets Against Surrey

Kent completed their first win of the LV= County Championship season by eight wickets against Surrey at the Spitfire Ground.

Rob Key's side were made to wait a little longer than they may have expected to secure the win on the final day after rain and a 33-run stand from Surrey's last-wicket pair Jade Dernbach and Matt Dunn.

Spinner Adam Riley prised out Dernbach, to claim his ninth wicket of the match, and while the rain swept in soon after Kent nonetheless reeled in a target of 54 in 9.3 overs.

That continued a poor start to the season for Surrey, who are winless after their opening four games, and who were staring down the barrel of defeat when they resumed the day nine down and with a lead of just 20 runs.

With little hope of recovering the situation Dernbach and Dunn enjoyed themselves. Dernbach lifted Mitch Claydon for six before locating the boundary from the next ball to raise the possibility of setting Kent a tricky chase. It was not to be, however, as Riley continued his impressive game by having Dernbach stumped by Sam Billings for 24 and end Surrey's innings on 203. The 22-year-old off-spinner completed his five-for with the wicket and ended with match figures of 9 for 155.

Kent's chase was stalled as the rain swept in to send the players off for 45 minutes. When the players returned, Kent initially appeared like they would make a meal of the modest target. Sam Northeast was trapped lbw by Aneesh Kapil first ball back before the 20-year-old right-armer had Key caught by Jason Roy to leave Kent 11 for two.

Daniel Bell-Drummond and first-innings centurion Brendan Nash made sure there were no more slip-ups as they polished off the remaining runs in quick time. Bell-Drummond finished unbeaten on 29, from 20 balls, while Nash completed his fine match on 18 not out.
