Kent Women begin season with trips to Somerset and Sussex

Kent Women bid for a record seventh County Championship title with a double-header away from home this weekend.

Record-breaking England skipper Charlotte Edwards leads a 13-strong squad against Somerset at Taunton Vale on Sunday before playing Sussex at Eastbourne on Bank Holiday Monday.

All five of Kent’s current England internationals are available after reaching the World T20 semi-finals in India.

Six-time champions Kent boast more England internationals than any of the franchises in the new Women’s T20 Super League which starts in July in a four-week break in the county calendar.

Kent women’s team manager Lin Martin said: “We have been pleased to see so many players at winter nets.

“It was great to see how well Kent players performed in the World T20 in India and this will hopefully inspire the rest of the squad and all cricketers in the county."
