Youthful side lose friendly by 6 wickets

A youthful Kent Women’s side lost a pre-season warm-up match against Surrey by four wickets at Thames Ditton.

Surrey won the toss and invited the double-winners to bat first with Jenni Jackson leading the side in the absence of the county’s England internationals.

With a line-up of mainly under-17 squad players, Kent got several starts on their way to scoring 142 with Phoebe Franklin (29) and Izzy Cloke (24) sharing 59 for the fourth wicket.

In reply, Surrey chased the target with four wickets to spare. 2015 and 2016 bowler of the year Megan Belt (pictured above) picked up 3/20 with her off-spin as eight bowlers were given a work-out.

Stand-in skipper Jackson, Annabelle Richards and Chelsey Rowson picked up the other three wickets.

Coach Lydia Greenway and captain Tammy Beaumont will confirm the 2017 squad before the Royal London 50-over opener against Nottinghamshire next Sunday (30 April).
