Kent Women Maintain Unbeaten Record in 2014

The top of the table clash between Sussex and Kent proved a one-side affair with the Kent Women running out comfortable winners.

The Royal London One-Day Cup fixture at Arundel was expected to be a close affair with both team’s unbeaten and on the same points at the top of the table. Sussex won the toss and put Kent in with Charlotte Edwards (151, from 142 balls, including 22 4’s) and Tamsin Beaumont (107 from 129 balls, including 11, 4’s) taking the initiative, putting on 253 for the first wicket. With contributions later from Lydia Greenway (15*) and Laura Marsh , who was bowled on the last ball of the innings for 12, Kent's made 299 -3 in their 50 overs.

Sussex set off at a thundering pace in reply and it was a close run match until the wickets of Georgia Elwiss (92) and Sarah Taylor (56) saw Sussex slip behind the run rate and start to lose wickets at regular intervals. In the end they finished all out for 217, with key bowling contributions from Erin Bermingham, 4 – 28, Laura Marsh, 2 – 54, and Charlotte Pape, 2 – 29. A Kent victory by 82 runs.

The Women’s team’s next fixture is a home match at The Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells, against the Nottinghamshire Women, Sunday 29 June, 11am start.
