Kent youngsters in Bunbury Festival squad

A Kent Cricket Academy scholar is one of four young Kentish cricketers named in the London and East squad for this year’s Under-15 Bunbury Festival.

Canterbury batsman Joe Gordon, 15, will be vice-captain of a 14-strong squad that also includes Sevenoaks wicketkeeper Harry Houillon, Whitstable left-arm seamer Ben Mills and Cranleigh all-rounder George Ealham.

Since its inception in 1987, a total of 76 Bunbury players have been capped by England and Kent coaches hope more of the 2017 intake can follow in the footsteps of Sam Billings, Joe Denly and James Tredwell.

High performance director Jason Weaver said: “It’s fantastic to see such a strong Kent contingent in the squad.

“The Bunbury Festival has a wonderful track record in identifying young talent over the years but there’s a lot of hard work to come to make the next steps into Academy and then professional cricket.”

The squad features players from Kent, Essex, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex and the festival will take place on July 17 to 21.
