Key included in 13 to face Hampshire

The Kent Spitfires have named the same 13 man squad, who lost last night to Surrey at Kia Oval, for Friday night’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Hampshire. This means that skipper Rob Key, who didn’t play in London, will have to impress Head Coach Jimmy Adams in a fitness test prior to the match to get his place back in the starting 11. Key is suffering from a hamstring strain, aggravated running between wickets in Kent’s fixture against Gloucestershire late in June.

‘We are hopeful that Rob will be fine Friday night because as the skipper and leading batsman he adds a lot to the team,’ stated Head Coach Jimmy Adams. ‘This has now become one of those ‘must win’ matches if we are going to make the top four in the group and play in the quarter-finals.’

Key was one of the stars in the Spitfires’ unsuccessful venture to Southampton during the two Counties third round clash in the NatWest T20 Blast. Chasing a formidable Hampshire total of 171 for 7 in their 20, built on a Michael Carberry 73, Key managed to carry his bat and hit 89 runs. Sadly it wasn’t enough with them coming up 22 runs short on 149 for the loss of four wickets.

The match begins 7.00pm Friday 4 July, at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury.
