Kuhn keen to contribute

Kent’s latest signing Heino Kuhn is relishing life in England after agreeing a contract to play in all formats.

The 33-year-old topped the South Africa four-day run charts in 2015/16, passing 1,000 runs in the season and earning the Domestic Player of the Year award.

An all-format player, Kuhn has scored 5,198 runs in domestic white-ball cricket.

His form earned his T20 International debut in 2009, however he would not be recalled until January 2017, for a three-match series against Sri Lanka on home soil.

Adjudged unfortunate to not have made his Test debut sooner, Kuhn received his Test call-up last year, opening the batting during South Africa’s tour of England.

The right-hander, who has played a lot of his career in the middle order, said: “It was always my dream to play Test cricket and fortunately I got that opportunity in England.

“Playing for Kent will be a great challenge. They are a strong team looking to play a strong brand of cricket and I am looking forward to what I can bring to the side.”

“With 12 years of experience playing domestic cricket in South Africa, I have learnt how to get the best out of a team and I want to bring that to the County side.”

Kuhn earned his Test call-up after several years of domestic success and caught the selectors’ eyes with a superb 200 not out for South Africa A at Hampshire last summer.

Kuhn said: “I am looking forward to the prospect of playing in new conditions. I really enjoyed the ‘A’ tour. Hopefully I can replicate those performances for Kent.”

Jacques Faul, CEO of his current club Titans, said: “He’s been a loyal servant and one of the most positive players in the team. We wish him all the best for this new chapter, as he embarks on his first season with Kent.”

“I have no doubt that Kent will quickly realise that this is the type of player that you want in your dressing room. He’s a fantastic player.”

Kuhn’s move is subject to gaining UK visa and ECB accreditation later this month.

He is set to join Kent after the conclusion of the South African domestic season and hopes to be available for at least one of Kent’s pre-season matches.
