Inspired by England’s World Cup win, Kent welcomed more than 200 women competing in 35 teams at 7 festivals this summer.

The cricket has at times been competitive, sometimes relaxed, but always worth a watch and the Prosecco has certainly been flowing! Funded by the ECB, the festivals have offered an accessible form of the game open to women of all levels and abilities.

There was music, a free massage to loosen shoulders, a picnic, Prosecco and even a game of bat and trap to finish the evening.

Community Cricket Officer for Girls and Women Helen Fagg said: “The atmosphere at these festivals was just brilliant and played in completely the right spirit.

“It was a bit of an unknown how many women would get involved but we have been very pleased with the response and a lot of fun was had in the sun! A big thank you to the ECB for funding and for the club venues that hosted.

“With the softball cricket equipment available for re-use and the venues keen, it is hopeful that we can repeat the festivals and continue the positive trend in women’s cricket participation.”

A big thank you to Mersham, Hayes, Tunbridge Wells, Folkestone, Farningham, Canterbury and Lordswood Cricket Clubs for hosting some fantastic events.
