Ollie Robinson reports for England U19 duty

Kent Cricket Academy scholar Ollie Robinson joined up with the England Under 19 squad for the first time ahead of two series this summer.

The 18-year-old Beckenham wicketkeeper-batsman is set to face the Unicorns in a two-day match at Loughborough today (Wednesday) in preparation for two four-day Tests.

The Sidcup-born right-hander, scored his maiden second XI century this season, said: “I’ve tried to balance my cricket with my A Levels and I’ve had a really good year going on the FGS Plant Tour with the first XI and scoring my first hundred in the second XI.

“Second XI cricket has been a big step up for me from Academy matches. The pace of the bowlers is quicker, there are fewer balls to hit for four, tougher catches – it’s been a good challenge.

“I’m really enjoying my club cricket with Beckenham which has been going well as we’re top of the Premier League against some good quality opposition.

“I’ve played some regional stuff at Under-17 level so I’ve played in front of England coaches and selectors but I’m really excited to get my teeth working with the England Under 19s.”

England play their Indian counterparts at Chesterfield on Sunday (23 July) before another red-ball fixture at Worcester on Monday 31 July.

Then the focus turns to the Royal London One-Day Cup series including a day-night match at The Spitfire Ground on Wednesday 9 August as part of the 166th Canterbury Cricket Week.

Entry to the 50-over fixture is free.
