Past President, Mr. Sandy Alexander Dies

Thursday 17th July 2014

It is with great sadness that Kent County Cricket Club reports the death of Mr. UHB (Sandy) Alexander, Past President, who died at his home, following a short illness, Friday 11th July 2014.

Sandy Alexander was born in 1916 and was one of our oldest surviving members. He had a great passion for cricket throughout his life and could often be found in ‘his’ box in the Les Ames Stand. He patronised the box for many years but latterly passed it over to the management of Furley Page, his former workplace.

Mr. Alexander became Club President in 1984 and served his year with great distinction and enjoyed a Lord’s Final in the NatWest Trophy competition. Kent lost the final to Middlesex on the very last ball of the day, the Londoners recording a 4 wicket victory – one of the ‘great’ finals of its time.

The funeral for Mr. Alexander will be private family event but it is hoped that a memorial service will take place at Canterbury Cathedral later in the year. The club will keep you informed of the details as and when they become available.
