Pharon Indoor Cricket League Update – Tuesday 4 February 2014

The two clubs from the Canterbury Pharon Indoor League were both knocked out in the quarter-finals when the Kent championships were held at the Ames Levett Indoor School, at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Canterbury, runners-up to Street End in the Pharon League, lost to Sandwich by three wickets after totalling 80 – 4 in their 12 overs. Street End, making their debut in the competition, were beaten by 14 runs by Upchurch, the Swale representative, who then went out to Broadstairs.

Sevenoaks Vine, the only west Kent side to enter, were shot out for 15 in the last quarter-final with Broadstairs.

The Ashford and Maidstone Leagues did not enter.

In the final Broadstairs made 89 – 5 after being put in. With three wickets in tact, Sandwich required 13 form the final over, which was Andy Marshall’s one and only.

Sandwich lost a fourth wicket when a catch was held and, to claim the title, required three from the last ball (having lost fewer wickets).But Marshall clean bowled Liam Evans and was named man-of-the-match.

Broadstairs now meet Wanstead and Snaresbrook, the Essex Champions in the ECB Regional play-offs in Chelmsford. The regional finals are at Canterbury, March 2, and the national finals at Lord’s a fortnight later.
