Planning application for retirement apartments refused

A planning application for retirement living apartments at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence was rejected by Canterbury City Councillors last night.

The authority’s planning committee refused permission for the construction of 60 retirement living apartments on the Old Dover Road side of the ground despite a recommendation for approval by planning officers.

Kent Cricket CEO Jamie Clifford said: “We regret that, despite the planning officer’s recommendation to grant planning permission, Canterbury City Council Planning Committee refused the application.

“We are clearly bitterly disappointed with this outcome and await the full decision notice from the Council before considering our next steps.”
