Rain wrecks third day’s play

Rain had the better of day three at Canterbury where only 53 balls were bowled in the second division LV= County Championship clash between Kent and Yorkshire.
Resuming at noon and after a delayed start, Kent improved on their overnight total of 316 for six and had reached 350 for nine for a fourth batting bonus point and a valuable lead of 103 runs when the rain arrived.
Kent’s new overseas professional, Australian left-hander Brendan Nash consolidated on his second day century and was unbeaten on 132 when the heavens opened at 12.40pm.
Nash saw three partners go at the other end in the 40 minutes of play that had been possible.
Tim Bresnan prised out James Tredwell (37) to a sharp catch at second slip by Phil Jaques then had Matt Coles caught behind from the next delivery and without addition.
Mark Davies survived the hat-trick ball but was comprehensively bowled in the next over after missing a back-foot defensive shot against wrist-spinner Adil Rashid.
Having reached 350 and a three-figure lead, Kent are more than likely to declare overnight, but a poor forecast for the last day may scupper their chances of forcing a victory.
