Thursday 1st March 2012

Rob Key is to open the Kent Cricket Beckenham Race Night Fundraiser on Friday 23rd March, in aid of the charity, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and The Ben Daniels Memorial Fund.

Each week in the UK at least twelve apparently 'fit and healthy' young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. By raising awareness and providing screening opportunities through CRY, the aim, in Ben's name is to prevent similar tragedies.

TheRace Nighthas been organised to support the endeavours of Kent Cricket Beckenham Manager, Ken Slater who will be running the London Marathon in aid of The Ben Daniels Memorial Fund. The Race Night at the Worsley Bridge Road outground in Beckenham will include champagne for the winning horse owners, a raffle, silent auction and address from Rob Key. Tickets are available now for just £5, which includes a sausage/pie and chips meal.

Rob Key commented; "I am privilaged to have become a Patron of CRY. I have been very fortunate to enjoy a career playing cricket, however a close friend of mine, Ben Simpson, suddenly lost his life whilst playing a game of hockey.

"CRY does a fantastic amount of work in raising awareness and encouraging cardiac screening for young people. It gives me great pleasure to support the work of CRY to ensure we reduce the number of such tragic cardiac deaths each year."
