Sam Northeast hits Scorchers century Down Under

Kent vice-captain Sam Northeast hit a fluent century for Sunshine Coast Scorchers against Northern Suburbs on Saturday.

The Scorchers skipper, 25, led from the front as he piled on 166 runs with opener Nick Selman (119 not out) for the second wicket.

His 134-ball innings included 15 boundaries and a six in 145 minutes at the crease.

TheScorchers' first innings total of 357 for six, setting the Norths a target of 358 from 84 overs.

Brendan Nash, who will return to Kent for a fourth season this summer, bowled five overs including two maidensfor nine runs.

In reply on Sunday,Daniel Bell-Drummondopened the innings and scored 12 before he was run out after facing 34 balls in 57 minutes.

Kent seamer Ivan Thomas struck to remove opener Nicholas Sale for 78 and ended with figures of 1/39 off 15 overs.

Norths pushed to threaten the total with a Haydn Murray century and a quickfireBrendan Nash23 from 21 balls, including three boundaries and a six but came up short.

The hosts ended on 252 for four as the First Grade match finished with honours even.

Elsewhere in Queensland, Kent all-rounderAdam Ball's league-leading Redlands Tigers struggled against Toombul.

The 21-year-old made seven and six with the bat as Tigers were bowled out for 119 and scored 255 for nine before Toombul won on first innings after scoring 239/8.
