Alex Blake smashed quick-fire 50s in both innings and Hugh Bernard grabbed a five-wicket haul as Kent defeated Glamorgan in the Second XI Championship match in Neath.

Kent dismissed Glamorgan for 213 on day one with academy graduate Bernard claiming his first red-ball five-wicket haul of the summer with 5/72 in 22 overs after skipper Alex Blake won the toss and elected to field first.

Calum Haggett and Matt Hunn each struck twice with only two batsman passing 50.

In reply, skipper Alex Blake smashed ten fours and a six in an innings of 61 off 57 balls.

He shared the biggest stand of the innings with Academy ‘keeper Ollie Robinson before Imran Qayyum’s 31 helped the visitors post a 43-run lead.

Matt Hunn struck with the new ball in the second innings to reduce Glamorgan to 10-2 before the spinners caused havoc.

Imran Qayyum was the pick of the bowlers with 4/92 from 26 overs and Adam Riley chipped in with 2/50 off a tidy 21-over spell before Glamorgan set Kent a chase of 247 off 44 overs.

Kent recovered from the early loss of Harry Ellison with a 63-run stand by Zak Crawley and Kai Appleby, both men scoring 41.

Following their departure, the run rate started to rise before Alex Blake (86) and Calum Haggett (42) added 117 in 19.1 overs to put Kent in sight of the win.

Academy scholar Ollie Robinson dispatched two big sixes and hitting the winning runs to help see Kent home.
