Spitfires aim to finish Royal London One-Day Cup Group Stage Unbeaten

Having already qualified to host a Royal London One-Day Cup quarter final, the Kent Spitfires will aim to complete the group stage unbeaten. They host neighbours the Middlesex Panthers in the final round match for Group B, Wednesday 20 August at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, in the last fixture of the 163rd Canterbury Cricket Week.

Head Coach Jimmy Adams will be looking for his charges to return to their winning approach in limited over cricket, having struggled against Hampshire in their recent LV= County Championship match, ‘It is a completely different format and squad line up so we will be looking to pick up where we left off against Sussex last week,’ commented Adams. He has stuck with the core of players he has used all season with Adam Riley returning as well as Captain Rob Key. ‘It will be good to have Keysy (Rob Key) back as he is such an experienced player who leads from the front in all ways.’

Since 1969 Kent have played Middlesex 57 times in limited over matches. Results have been close with the split, 30 won, 27 lost in Kent’s favour. The most recent fixture was in August 2011 with the Spitfires victorious by two wickets, having chased down Middlesex’s 263 all out in 39.3 overs. Leading the charge for Kent were Darren Stevens, 65, and Sam Northeast, 57, getting them home with three balls to spare.
